Default Help should I declare myself bankrupt?

Hi
I am 62 years old and in full time employmeny although I am about to have my second written warning which I am sure they are going to sack me they have been trying to get rid of me for ages now.
My hisband is 73 and retired due to poor health. I took out a bank loan 2 years ago for £20,000 and if I get sacked I am scared as I will not be able to afford to pay this back. To make things worse last year our dog became ill and ended up having to pay a load of vet bills and in doing so went over the overdraft, my bank talked me into taking out a second loan for £1200.00 in my husbands name as we have a joint account.
Now between us we have 2 loans which looks like we are unable to pay for the only income we have coming in is our state pensions.
We are not home owners we live in a housing association house.
Can someone advise me on what I should do my daughter thinks we should declare ourselves bankrupt?
Thanks in advance
