Default Legal Notification. Need help please.

I could really do with some help on this one. I have recently been getting letters from Aktiv Kapital regarding an apparrent debt of £490 which I am supposed to owe barclay mastercard. I have been ignoring these letters because I have not had a barclay mastercard in about 10 years, however I have now recieved a legal notification from BCW threatning me with a claim against me in my local court along with various other threats of what could happen if I continue not to pay. I am now getting worried sick about this. Like I said I did have a barclay mastercard around 10 years ago and I do also vaguely remember that when I lost my job around then I did have difficulty in paying all my debts, I also remember that this debt was passed on to a debt collection agency, I cant remember which one but it was not Aktiv Kapital, I spoke to this company and I remember saying that I could pay a minimal amount then and so much monthly after that, I cant remember the exact figures, the person on the phone said they did not know if that would be acceptable but they took the payment I offered on the phone by debit card, I thought then that they had accepted my terms, but I never heard anything from them again, now about 9 years later I am getting all this hassle. Can I still be pursued for this after all this time? Can someone please advise me on what my best course of action should be thanx.
