Do not be sad, as dumb as it sounds there has never been a better time to have debt issues as there is a lot of help out there. Your debt can be dealt with quickly and pain free

First of go to CCCS | Free debt help and debt advice from the UK's leading debt charity - they are a non profit debt counselling charity who will 100% help you and make you feel happier. First they will take your details and then with you, they will work out your income and expenditure. Whatever income is left, they will give you the letters to send your creditors - and creditors have for the most part been extremely understanding in this difficult economy. Also, the interest on your debts will be stopped, so matter how much you pay them each month, you will be reducing the debt.

The CCCs will help and support you for free. Your not alone and not the only one with debt issues. But they can be solved just by talking to people like the CCCs. Please do not pay someone to 'help' your debt situation.

I hope this helps and please let us know how you got on.

I'm not familiar with the credit laws in the UK, but I'd follow Admin's advice to get free credit counseling.

Here in the States, it sometimes makes sense to declare bankruptcy if you have no other options and need to start fresh. You could also consider legal action against your ex, especially if he still has items that were purchased (they could be repossessed to offset the debt).

I hear your story many times, but have found that getting free advice is not aways best, I agree you should not pay the excessive fees some companies charge, but a good debt consultant will put you into an IVA, thats a legal agreement were your creditors agree to write of possible 50% of your debts and the balance you simple pay off at £250 per month for five years. A good consultant will simply charge just £250 fee and your creditors pay all the legal fees. This clears your debt, stops the stress, freezes all the interest and charges and lets you forget your ex.

Dont be sad - there is help available!
I know a friend of mine that went and spoke to a debt advisor and it was probably the best thing that she did - they developed a debt management repayment program and she was able to manage her finances a lot better.
