Hey I can understand the situation when someone drowns in debt. As per my view he should do debt settlement if possible. But do not forget to get the written documents.

Have him speak to lawyer who specializes in debt or maybe speaking with one of those credit counseling companies. The only other option would be to take a job, any job, just to get a paycheck.

If he has a number of credit cards it would be a wise idea to carry out a credit card balance transfer onto one credit card that has a low interest rate for the transfer, as well as for purchases.
Preferably one with a low ongoing interest rate.

This way he will save hundreds of dollars each month on interest and annual fees.

Good luck.

If your friends does not get job then there only two option either you go for debt settlement or go for bankruptcy. Out of these two debt settlement is better because bankruptcy is like hell.

go and seek advice from a debt advisor- they will be able to tell him his best options as well as be brutally honest with him, which i think is always needed when anyone's in debt. I had the option to consolidate my debt or an IVA and i opted for IVA as this best suited me.

The best thing to do would be to go and speak to your citizens advice bureau to see what they advise and if that fails then maybe consider going to speak to a debt advisor where they will be able to implement a repayment plan or even consolidate your debts.
