Default Question about marriage effecting debt

Basic information first.

Took out a Debt Management Plan just over 1 year ago. I took it out after an IVA application failed because one of the companies decided not to accept it. The debt is around £20,000 to quite a large number of companies. I pay £322 a month. If you need anymore info, please ask.

Question

I was technically single when I took out the plan. Although I was seeing someone, I was living alone. We have since moved in and are planning to get married in August this year. Does anyone know whether this effects my Management Plan and how it will effect my management plan? For instance, does my new wife become liable for the debt too? Does it effect her credit rating like it does mine? Does the company running the management plan have the right to consider her income when deciding on how much I pay?

As the debt was incurred by you then only you are liable for it. Not your wife to be. £322 seems a lot to be paying under a debt management plan. Is the interest frozen on your debts and is the 100% of the £322 going to your creditors? I once reduced almost £100k of debt down to less than a £100 per month, had the interest frozen and eventually arranged full and final settlements to the creditors with some taking offers of less than 80% of the original outstanding debt.

Really,

Can you tell me a little more about that please?

I was paying £300, but I had a review earlier this week and they upped it to £322 (of course, that includes the blasted fee to the company arranging the plan).

What concerned me most was that they asked what the income of my partner was - I said I wasn't sure (which is true). The person said that as we haven't been with each other for long she wouldn't include her income into the consideration but they may have to in the future.

If it is my debt (and I appreciate and know that!) I don't see why my partner has to be penalised - and on a selfish level, why we have to be penalised for my debt that was accured before we were together.

I think I need a bit more advice on that too actually if you have any?

Thanks in advance.
