Default Rental when re-emerging from debt.

Hello,

I need some advice as I have been scouring the internet for hours and have come up with nothing in response to my debt problem.

I am in some manner of debt, which I shall be discussing with CCCS in relation to a DRO as soon as I move into an address and am able to do so. However, at the moment I am homeless, and finally coming into some cash to be able to move house in September, October. This is from a student loan, as I restart the year in September. For the past few months I have been staying on settees etc having been forced to move out of my old home due to lack of money.

My query is - I am aware that letting agents etc have credit checks that need to be completed, and I am afraid that I will not be able to find housing as I have not even responded to these debts in over 18 months. I know it will pose problems for me, as society is geared to make you aspire for credit, but will it completely prevent me from obtaining housing? I am moving in with a friend who will help me to take on the costs, but I am completely clueless about how letting agents respond to bad credit.

I am not here to gain advice on the debt itself, as I am clear on the path to take, I just need an address to start rebuilding my life :-). Any advice would help however, and I will appreciate any reply.

Hi,

Have you discussed this with your local council? There should be accommodation options available to you and once you get more financially stable you could consider renting a room or flat sharing. There are dedicated sites for student accommodation such as - accommodationforstudents.com/

Well done taking the first step with the CCCS - they will help you and I try to point people that need debt help to them as they are free to use and staffed by people that care.

This could be a reason why you are unable to gain housing - the best thing to do would be to go and visit your citizens advice bureau and see what they advise, along with a debt advisor - this way they will be able to assess your situation and be able to let you know what options are best for you. i.e debt consolidation etc...
