During a recent visit to Barcelona my wallet was stolen by a pickpocket on a crowded bus. I only lost 30€,and some miscellaneous bits of paper including photocopies of the main ID page of each of my wife & my passports. The information includes:

Passport No
Full Name
Date of Birth
Place of Birth
Signature

The local Barcelona police said that the pickpockets are after cash & credit cards etc after which they 'throw away' the wallet and miscellaneous contents and therefore I need not worry about ID theft re our passport details.

I rang the passport office and they confirmed that they do not keep a record of reports such as this.

What action if any should I take i.e. renew each passport at £77 each, regularly monitor my credit status or do nothing!.

Opinions welcome please, especially those relating to how someone could use/benefit from our personal information.
