I am a qualified accountant and I can fully recommend the AAT course. It takes 3 years part-time, so you can work and earn alongside getting your qualification. Most accountacy firms should offer this. Part-time involves going to college 1 day a week and working the remiander of the week. You dont have to work in an accountancy firm but it can make the course easier. You can do the course full time which would take 1 year-this is apparently very tough but it depends on your learning style. Im sure your boyfriend could get a grant to help him along the way.

Hope this helps!
